The donation bin

RIGHT INSIDE THE FRONT ENTRANCE.

Look for the big yellow bin with the Schellens donation signage as soon as you walk in. Drop your bag or box in any time we are open.

  • 1

    GATHER & BAG

Collect clean, dry outgrown kids' things and pack them in a bag or box.

  • 2

    DROP IN THE BIN

The donation bin is right inside the front entrance. Drop off any time we are open — no appointment needed.

  • 3

    WE TAKE IT FROM THERE

Our team sorts and checks every donation so another Island family can discover it.

Large gear — cribs, strollers, high chairs and similar — goes to a staff member, not the bin, so it can be safety-checked first.

HOW DONATIONS WORK

A few honest ground rules so there are no surprises.

  • Please bag or box donations so they stay clean and dry.
  • Donations are given freely — there are no payouts, no store credit and no tax receipts.
  • Donated items become Schellens property and may be sold, passed along, recycled or responsibly disposed of.
  • Large gear — cribs, strollers, high chairs and similar — goes to a staff member, not the bin, so it can be safety-checked first.

Most of our floor starts as neighbourhood donations. Schellens also buys selected Marketplace lots and sources from trusted Little Loves contacts, so not every item on the floor was donated.

OUR YEARLY WISH GOAL

$1 from every completed purchase moves the tracker forward.

$0 of $10,000

0 purchases = $0 toward one Island wish

0% of this year's goal$10,000 = one Island wish

Tracker begins when Schellens opens.

Our $10,000 yearly goal is based on Make-A-Wish Canada's published average cost to grant one wish. The figure is a working target and is pending partner confirmation.

Schellens is still coming to life, so this commitment is planned and pending formal approval with our community partner. Nothing has been collected or donated yet.

Quick answers

DONATION QUESTIONS

Where do I drop off donations?

In the donation bin right inside the front entrance, bagged or boxed, any time we are open. No appointment needed.

What can I donate?

Clean, dry, bagged kids' clothing, footwear, toys, books, accessories and suitable gear.

What can't you accept?

Recalled, unsafe, broken, wet, mouldy or smoke-damaged items — we cannot pass those on to another family.

Do I get paid or receive store credit?

No. Donations are given freely — there are no cash payouts, e-transfers or store credit for donated items.

Do I get a tax receipt?

No. Schellens is a family-run store, not a registered charity, so item donations are not eligible for tax receipts.

What happens to my donation?

Donated items become Schellens property. They may be sold in store, passed along, recycled or responsibly disposed of.

I have a crib, stroller or other large gear — bin or counter?

Please bring large gear to a staff member instead of the bin so it can be safety-checked first.

Is everything in the store donated?

Most of it starts as donations, and Schellens also buys selected Marketplace lots and sources from trusted Little Loves contacts.
